ANIMAL CHIROPRACTIC

ABOUT DR. LIV

During Dr. Liv’s final year of chiropractic school, she obtained specialized training for animal chiropractic through the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre. This certification involved 220 hours of coursework and hands-on training. The course is recognized by the chiropractic regulatory body and by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Liv has had pets her entire life, ranging from dogs and cats to hamsters and tree frogs. She loves animals of all sorts and is so excited to help your pets as well!

WHAT IS ANIMAL CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic adjustments are quick and controlled forces applied to areas of restriction through the body. These areas of restriction are determined by the chiropractor feeling the muscles, joints and bones on your animal.

WHY CHOOSE ANIMAL CHIROPRACTIC?

Animal chiropractic is:

  • Non-invasive
  • Drug-free
  • Often relaxing and enjoyed by pets

BENEFITS OF CHIROPRACTIC

  • Reduced pain and stiffness
  • Increased mobility
  • Faster recovery time
  • Enhanced performance

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do I know if my pet needs chiropractic treatment?
    • Unfortunately, animals cannot tell us when they are experiencing aches and pains. Dr. Liv is trained to detect changes in their gait, behaviour and movements and determine where exactly your pet is feeling discomfort. With this information, she can use chiropractic adjustments, mobilizations, soft tissue therapy and exercise to help your pet feel and move better.
    • Some common signs that your pet may require chiropractic treatment include:
      • Pain or sensitivity to touch
      • Yelping or whining on movement
      • Changes in behaviour
      • Difficulty getting up and down
      • Trouble with climbing stairs, getting in and out of the car, or moving on and off furniture
      • Limping
  • What can I expect on my pet’s first visit?
    • During an initial visit, Dr. Liv will take a thorough health history from you, regarding your pet’s previous health history and current complaints. She will then conduct a physical exam to determine where your pet’s pain is coming from. Next, she will discuss her findings with you and deliver a proposed plan of management for your pet. Treatment can be provided on this first visit as well.
  • What do follow-up treatments look like?
    • During a treatment, Dr. Liv will adjust your pet’s body using her hands. You may hear gentle “pops” coming from your pet’s joints during a chiropractic adjustment, this is normal and should be completely painless. Appointments may also consist of gentle mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, and exercise and stretching prescriptions.
  • Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
    • An adjustment uses minimal force and gentle pressure. Most pets enjoy coming in for their appointments. Sometimes when pets come in with tense muscles due to pain or discomfort, they may feel some slight discomfort or sensitivity during their appointment, but it is temporary, and not a sign that anything is wrong.
  • If you have any further questions, feel free to email Dr. Liv at dr.oliviastarling@gmail.com or book a FREE consultation to see if animal chiropractic could be helpful for your pet.

It is very important to note that chiropractic care does not replace veterinary care. Dr. Liv will work in collaboration with your veterinarian and refer you back to your veterinarian if she feels it is necessary.
